Jacob Elordi’s Exciting Year Ahead in Film and Television
Jacob Elordi, known for his compelling performances on screen, is gearing up for a dynamic year filled with significant roles. The actor is set to appear in Guillermo del Toro’s much-anticipated adaptation of Frankenstein and is currently filming wuthering heights. However, perhaps most notably, he is preparing for his leading role in the Australian television series, The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
Upcoming Series: The Narrow Road to the Deep North
Directed by Justin Kurzel, the miniseries is based on Richard Flanagan’s acclaimed Man Booker Prize-winning novel. The narrative delves into the harrowing experiences of prisoners forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway during World War II. Elordi plays the role of Dorigo, a soldier whose experiences are shaped by both courage and the poignant memories of love.
Elordi was spotted at a Berlin interview, sporting a distinctive look with wild curly hair and sideburns, hinting at the transformative journey he underwent for the role. The Narrow Road to the Deep North is set to premiere on Prime Video in Australia on April 18th, with additional release plans yet to be announced.
The Story and Its Themes
The miniseries unfolds across three distinct timelines and perspectives, juxtaposing the harsh realities of war with a central love story. Dorigo is caught in a tumultuous relationship with Amy, portrayed by Odessa Young, who is not only his motivation for survival but also a source of torment due to their shared past.
Elordi’s Perspective on Filming
While discussing the challenges of portraying such a complex character, Elordi expressed initial trepidation about the romantic elements overshadowing the war narrative. However, he credited Kurzel’s direction for enhancing the authenticity of these moments:
“He made us feel incredibly raw, authentic and calm in this space, and we shot it in half, making it my favorite part of the filmmaking process,” Elordi shared.
Physical Preparation for the Role
Part of Elordi’s commitment to the role included undertaking a six-week weight loss journey, an effort that he described as a collective endeavor involving not just himself, but also the background actors. This dedication brings an added layer of realism to their performances:
“It was really amazing to see a lot of young people put that effort into something and see it when we came back from that break. It was like, oh my god.”
Collaboration and Relationship with Co-Stars
Casting for the series proved effortless for Kurzel, who recognized Elordi’s potential in embodying Dorigo’s character. Elordi discussed further the collaborative spirit on set, noting that the actors embraced the physical and emotional challenges posed by their roles. His comments highlighted the dynamic environment fostered by the cast and crew:
“The crew watching them come on set… Wow, we can see what these boys did, so it would be even better today. It was really powerful.”
The Road Ahead for Elordi
As Elordi continues to elevate his career with diverse roles, including his recent portrayal of Elvis Presley in Priscilla and his participation in Saltburn, he remains focused on his craft:
“I can make a lot of films, and that’s my dream, so I’m probably the lucky guy.”
With a bright future ahead, Jacob Elordi is not just navigating the world of film but is also contributing significantly to narratives that emphasize both personal and collective resilience. Fans eagerly await his upcoming performances, which promise to showcase his growing range as an actor.
