Billy Joel, the iconic piano man, has announced the postponement of several upcoming concerts due to health concerns. The 75-year-old musician revealed that he is recovering from an undisclosed medical procedure, which has led to the delay of eight of his scheduled performances. Some of these concerts will be pushed back for over a year.
In a statement shared on his Instagram on March 11, Joel explained, “Billy Joel’s upcoming concert dates will be rescheduled due to a medical condition. The current tour will be postponed for four months to allow him to recover from recent surgery and undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.” Joel reassured his fans that he expects to make a full recovery. He also expressed his regret over the cancellations, saying, “While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”
This postponement marks the second time this year that Joel has had to adjust his tour schedule. In January, the singer had to reschedule a performance at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, due to another medical issue. Originally slated for January 17, that concert has now been moved to November 1, 2025. Joel shared his disappointment about the delay, saying, “I’m disappointed to share that I must postpone my concert at Hard Rock Live. I appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing everyone in November.”
The rescheduled concerts are part of Joel’s ongoing tour, which features performances alongside Stevie Nicks and Sting. Despite this recent setback, the tour is still slated to run through 2026, though many of the dates will be affected by these new delays. While the changes may disappoint fans, Joel’s health and recovery are his top priority.
In addition to his touring commitments, Joel has also reflected on his recent return to music. In January 2024, he released “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first new single in over 15 years. During an interview in April 2024, Joel admitted how challenging it was to re-enter the creative process after such a long time. “I forgot how much work it is,” he said. “It’s head-spinning and different from what I remember.”
Although these delays are unfortunate for fans eagerly awaiting Billy Joel’s performances, his commitment to recovery ensures that he will be back on stage as soon as he is able. Fans can rest assured that when Joel does return, it will be with the same passion and energy that have made him a beloved figure in the music world for decades.
