Da Brat and her wife, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart, are excited to share that they’re expecting their first child together. The couple, who married in February 2022, is thrilled to embark on this next chapter of their lives. The 48-year-old rapper, known for her hit “Funkdafied,” shared the news on social media in February 2023, displaying her baby bump while sporting a relaxed Chicago Bulls jersey.
“BLESSINGS all 2023,” Da Brat wrote, alongside her Instagram post. “Thanks so much to @hopefertility for helping us on our journey.” The announcement is a joyous moment for the couple, especially since Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, had previously shared that motherhood wasn’t something she had envisioned for herself.
In a heartfelt interview with People, Da Brat opened up about her initial reluctance to have children. “I never thought I was going to have kids,” she admitted, revealing that she believed the chance had passed her by due to her successful career and the fact that she hadn’t gotten pregnant earlier in life. “I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me,” she explained.
However, everything changed when she met Jesseca. Despite already being a mother to three children from a previous relationship, Judy’s presence in Da Brat’s life shifted her perspective. “I was like, I want a little me with you,” Da Brat recalled. “Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”
At the time of the announcement, Da Brat was already more than four months into her pregnancy. She shared that she doesn’t experience cravings and doesn’t feel the need to slow down. In fact, the rapper remains committed to her professional endeavors, including co-hosting The Rickey Smiley Morning Show and Dish Nation. Despite her tough exterior and fearless rap lyrics, Da Brat confessed that she’s become more emotional throughout her pregnancy. “Everything makes me cry,” she said. “If someone wins American Idol, I cry. I’m like, I’m tougher than that!”
The couple’s journey to parenthood has been filled with love and support, and they’re now looking forward to welcoming their bundle of joy later this year. Fans of Da Brat and Judy are undoubtedly eager to see what the next chapter in their love story holds.
