Ed Sheeran Prepares for Eighth Album Release
As Ed Sheeran gears up for the launch of his highly anticipated eighth album, he expresses anticipation for sharing new music shortly after the album drops. The artist noted that the diverse sound of the record will enable him to release several singles without significant waits in between.
Insights from Call Her Daddy
In a recent interview on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy with host Alex Cooper, Sheeran reflected on a range of topics including his lyrical approach and fond memories with fellow artist Taylor Swift. He even shared a humorous anecdote about an embarrassing encounter in a hotel lobby.
New Music and Upcoming Singles
During the discussion, Sheeran shared insights about his new single “Azizam,” which will be featured on his next album. While the exact release date for the album is still pending, he indicated that more music is on the horizon.
He explained, “My idea is that the album is so broad that I didn’t want to be like, ‘This is the single, there’s an album here.’ We have ‘Azizam’ now. In a few weeks, there will be a song called ‘Old Phone.’ Then another song comes.” This reflects a strategic approach to showcasing the album’s variety and depth.
Performance Highlights
Sheeran has already given fans a sneak peek of “Old Phone” through a live performance on The Tonight Show. When asked about the differences in style between this new album and his previous work, he remarked, “That’s definitely not. I think I’ve explored more with this album.” He emphasized a newfound creative freedom, stating, “I had the attitude of ‘Why not?'”
Musical Exploration and Inspirations
Sheeran revealed that he has expanded his musical influences for this project, stating he had collaborated with various artists and explored different genres. “I wrote songs like ‘Azizam’ with the Persian Ilya… There are many moments on the record,” he added. His journey included experiences in India, where he immersed himself in the local music scene.
Thematic Shift in Upcoming Work
This eighth album will follow the release of two albums earlier in 2023, which were noted for their heavier themes. Sheeran shared that, unlike his previous works, this new record aims for a tone that is “bright, colorful, and playful,” reflecting a desire to move away from previous feelings of melancholy.
“I think they’re still beautiful records, but then I feel like there’s a sadness… I had to have something bright,” he noted, highlighting the change in direction that the album embodies.
