A Long-Awaited Comeback at SXSW
Jessica Simpson is back and better than ever! After a long hiatus, the 44-year-old singer recently made her on-stage return, marking her first performance in over 15 years. The highly anticipated comeback took place at the Recording Academy’s Austin Chapter Block Party during SXSW in Austin, Texas, on March 12.
Emotional Performance and New Music
In an emotional post shared on her Instagram the following day, Simpson revealed how special the moment was for her. She wrote, “Last night was my first performance in 15 years. It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself. Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y’all. More to come…”
The crowd was treated to a preview of new music as Simpson performed four fresh tracks, including “Leave” and “Use My Heart Against Me,” in addition to covers of “Son of a Preacher Man” and “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” Fans were elated to hear the return of her powerful vocals, and the moment was certainly a highlight of SXSW.
Navigating Personal Challenges
Simpson’s on-stage comeback comes just two months after a major life change: her separation from her husband, Eric Johnson. In January, Simpson shared a statement, revealing that she and Johnson had been living separately and were navigating a difficult period in their marriage. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” she said, adding, “We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
The couple, who married in 2014, share three children: Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5. Despite the separation, Simpson’s commitment to her children remains a top priority.
New Music and a Fresh Start
In addition to her live performance, Simpson recently released new music, including her single “Leave,” which is featured on her Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 EP, dropping on March 21. The song’s lyrics touch on themes of betrayal and heartbreak, with lines such as, “What we had was magic / Now you made it tragic / Giving her what you gave to me / Now the well that you drank from’s empty,” hinting at personal experiences that fans may recognize from her own life. This EP marks Simpson’s first release since her 2010 holiday album, Happy Christmas.
Simpson’s return to music and the stage is a testament to her resilience, and fans are eagerly anticipating more from her. This comeback isn’t just about the music; it’s a new chapter for the singer who is embracing her personal and professional transformations. With her voice back in full force and new music on the horizon, it seems that Jessica Simpson is ready to soar once again.
