Kyra Sedgwick’s New Fowl Friends
Kyra Sedgwick has a new batch of feathered friends, but Whoopi Goldberg isn’t convinced they will be safe from the dinner table in the long run. On the April 1 episode of The View, Sedgwick, 58, opened up about her new pet chickens, which she and her husband, Kevin Bacon, recently added to their growing farm family. While Sedgwick expressed her love for the chickens, Goldberg, ever the realist, made a joke about their fate.
“Oh, my God, I love them so much,” Sedgwick gushed about the chickens, adding that she was convinced they loved her back. The chickens, though still unnamed, have already found a spot in her heart. She mentioned that they have been integrated into the farm’s other animals, including alpacas, pigs, mini horses, and a goat.
Sunny Hostin Offers Support, Goldberg Issues a Warning
Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, lightened the mood by reassuring Sedgwick, “They do, because they can recognize up to 30 faces,” validating Sedgwick’s belief that her chickens are just as affectionate as her other animals. However, Goldberg, with her signature dry humor, issued a stark warning. “You’ll feel terrible when you go to eat them,” she quipped, reminding Sedgwick that the circle of life might eventually bring the chickens to the dinner table.
Sedgwick laughed off the suggestion, but did acknowledge that the couple already eats the eggs from their chickens. However, with the chickens still without names, they are certainly not yet on the chopping block. It’s clear that Sedgwick and Bacon, who have shared a deep bond for over three decades, see their farm animals as more than just livestock.
A Farm Full of Animals and Love
Sedgwick and Bacon, both passionate animal lovers, have made their farm a sanctuary. They often share adorable glimpses of their life with their animals on social media, including an Instagram video from February 2024, where the couple serenaded their animals with an acoustic version of Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em.”
The chickens made their first public appearance in an October 2023 TikTok video, where Bacon and their daughter Sosie performed Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” while introducing their new fowl companions. Bacon captioned the video with a playful nod: “A little Springsteen to welcome our chickens.”
Bacon’s Change in Diet and the Future of the Chickens
Despite their deep affection for animals, Bacon recently confessed in an interview with People that he no longer eats some of the farm animals they keep. “I no longer eat goat and I no longer eat pig because I have goats and I have pigs,” he explained, adding that his wife often jokes about how their animal family is expanding faster than their diet can handle. While the chickens may be safe for now, it seems their future might depend on their role on the farm—companions or meals.
Whether they end up as pets or poultry, one thing’s clear: Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon’s love for animals is an enduring part of their lives, and it’s something they clearly share with their fans.
