Beyoncé Ensures Fans Get Home Safely
Beyoncé went above and beyond to ensure her fans could get home after her Renaissance World Tour stop in Washington, D.C., was delayed by bad weather. The singer paid $100,000 to extend the operating hours of the Washington, D.C., Metro, keeping the trains running late after a shelter-in-place order delayed the start of the show at FedExField on Sunday, August 6.
Shelter-in-Place Order and Delays
The concert was initially delayed due to lightning in the area, prompting FedExField to issue a shelter-in-place order. Fans were asked to remain inside the stadium or return to their vehicles for safety. Local news outlet WJLA reported that multiple people required medical attention for heat exhaustion during the delay. The show eventually resumed after nearly two hours, with the shelter-in-place order being lifted.
Metro’s Extended Hours
In response to the delay, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced that the last train would be extended by one hour to accommodate concertgoers. This additional hour of service was funded by Beyoncé’s tour to cover the $100,000 cost of operating more trains and keeping all 98 Metro stations open for fans to exit safely.
Beyoncé’s Gesture of Gratitude
While Beyoncé did not publicly address her donation for the Metro extension, she shared several photos from the rainy performance on Instagram. The images captured her stage crew working hard to clean the stage platform before she took to the stage.
A Night to Remember
Among the high-profile guests at the show were Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff. Harris shared a post on Instagram thanking Beyoncé for a “fun date night,” alongside a photo of the couple’s concert outfits. Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour has continued to attract notable celebrities, and her daughter, Blue Ivy, has made multiple appearances on stage, dancing alongside her mother during the performance of “My Power.”
Beyoncé’s Continued Support for Fans
Beyoncé’s actions in Washington, D.C., highlighted her commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of her fans, even when faced with unexpected challenges. Her generous gesture of covering Metro’s extended operating costs is just one of the many ways she has demonstrated care for her audience throughout her tour. With celebrity guests, special family moments, and unforgettable performances, the Renaissance World Tour remains one of the most talked-about events of the year.
