The world of James Bond is about to undergo a significant change, with Daniel Craig officially stepping down after No Time To Die in 2021. The search for the next actor to fill the shoes of the legendary 007 agent has sparked widespread speculation, with various names being thrown into the ring. Fans have been buzzing with excitement over who will become the next Bond. Here’s a rundown of seven actors who are in the running to portray the iconic British spy in the next chapter of the franchise.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson

At the top of many fans’ lists is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the 32-year-old actor known for his roles in Kick-Ass and Nocturnal Animals. Reports have surfaced that Taylor-Johnson has met with James Bond producers, and even underwent a screen test for the role. Sources claim that both the producers and Barbara Broccoli, who plays a key role in Bond casting, were impressed with his performance, leading to him being considered a frontrunner for the role.

Sam Heughan

Outlander star Sam Heughan, 42, has long been rumored to take over the role of 007. Heughan even auditioned for the part in Casino Royale back in 2006. He recently expressed that he now feels like the right age and maturity to take on the role, with a deep sense of capability. His prior experience and impressive action credentials in Outlander could make him a strong contender to be the next Bond.

Idris Elba

For years, fans have campaigned for Idris Elba, 50, to be the first Black James Bond. Elba himself has fueled the rumors, but in a 2022 interview, he shut down the possibility, stating that he wouldn’t be taking on the role. However, his legacy as a charismatic and powerful actor makes him one of the most talked-about candidates, and many still hope that one day he might change his mind.

Lashana Lynch

Lashana Lynch, 35, made history in No Time To Die by being the first woman, and the first Black actress, to carry the 007 codename. While her character, Nomi, took over the 007 mantle in the film, some fans believe that Lynch’s character could be the future face of the James Bond franchise. Whether it’s through a continuation of her story or a spin-off, Lashana could take the role forward, cementing herself as the new 007.

Tom Hiddleston

A perennial fan favorite for years, Loki star Tom Hiddleston, 41, has been one of the most discussed names in the race to play Bond. Though a source close to Bond producer Barbara Broccoli once claimed that Hiddleston wasn’t tough enough for the role, the actor still commands a strong fanbase. His suave presence and undeniable charm could make him an interesting option for the next Bond.

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill, 39, is no stranger to playing iconic roles, having starred as Superman in the DC Extended Universe. Cavill has expressed interest in taking on the role of James Bond, stating that he would love to explore the opportunity if offered. His experience in action-packed roles, such as Mission: Impossible – Fallout and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., makes him an intriguing candidate for the iconic part of 007.

Regé-Jean Page

After rising to fame in Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page, 34, quickly became a top contender for the role of James Bond. Page’s suave, charming, and mysterious presence is exactly what many fans imagine for the iconic secret agent. Although Page has been coy about the rumors, his breakout role as the Duke of Hastings has fueled speculation that he could be the next 007. His performances have captured the attention of Hollywood and Bond fans alike, making him a strong candidate for the role.

The Future of 007

The search for the next James Bond is as much about finding the right actor as it is about reshaping the future of the beloved franchise. Whether it’s continuing the legacy of 007 through a fresh face or diversifying the role to bring a new take to the iconic character, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding what comes next.

Fans continue to eagerly debate who will be chosen to follow in the footsteps of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. Will the new Bond be a bold new direction for the character, or will it stay close to tradition? Only time will tell who will take up the mantle of 007 next, but with such a talented group of actors in the running, the next chapter of James Bond is bound to be an exciting one.
